A man who appeared to tackle a suspect in the Bondi Beach shooting has been praised as a “hero”.

On Sunday (14 December), gunmen opened fire on the popular beach in a now confirmed terrorist attack. At least 15 people and one of the gunmen died. New South Wales Police said that a second alleged gunman is in police custody in a critical condition.

Footage has emerged which appears to show a man tackling one of the suspected terrorists before wrestling a rifle from his hands and pointing it at him, forcing the alleged attacker to retreat.

Speaking during a press conference, New South Wales premier Chris Minns said: “That man is a genuine hero, and I’ve got no doubt there are many, many people alive tonight as a result of his bravery.”
