Coronation Street icon Beverley Callard has said she is trying to be “brave and strong” after a “weird” cancer update.

The 69-year-old, who played Rovers Return bartender Liz McDonald for three decades on the ITV soap, announced in February that the illness is in its “very early stages”. She has since given regular updates to her fans.

On Tuesday (14 April) the I’m a Celebrity… South Africa star took to Instagram to explain that she has been waiting for results from an examination, and received a text asking her to see a consultant to discuss her results on Thursday.

“I spoke to one of the cancer nurses last week. She was great and she said, ‘We’ll ring you as soon as we know anything.’ And I think, well, why? Have they not rung me then, or am I mistaken?”
