What's Hot
After a feisty win over Leinster, where they ruffled some feathers as well as some hair, they were described as ‘an awful shower of p****s’. But are Glasgow Warriors REALLY the bad boys of rugby?

I take my sleep very seriously – I need a full eight hours to function. But I’m also someone who runs cold (I’m the person wearing fluffy pyjamas well into April), so a winter duvet isn’t just a cold-weather essential, it’s my idea of heaven. So, when the temperature starts to dip, I’m first in line to find the perfect cocoon to hunker down in.

Given that we spend about a third of our lives asleep, it only makes sense to invest in bedding that keeps us warm, cosy, and blissfully snoozing through frosty nights. The right winter duvet does exactly that – wrapping you up in comfort while saving you from cranking up the heating or plugging in an electric blanket.

Of course, finding the right one for you isn’t as simple as it sounds. There are tog ratings to decode (from the breezy 1 tog right up to the ultra-toasty 18), fillings to compare (natural or synthetic), and endless options promising cloud-like comfort. To help, I’ve been putting a whole host of duvets to the test, from luxury goose down numbers to clever all-season quilts that can be clipped together when the cold really bites.

So, whether you’re a fellow chilly sleeper, an eco-conscious shopper, or just someone who wants to feel like they’re being cocooned in a fluffy cloud of warmth, I’ve rounded up the best winter duvets to keep you cosy all season long.

The best winter duvets for 2026 are:

  • Best overall – Dunelm Dorma full forever 15 tog winter duvet: £85, Dunelm.com
  • Best budget buy – Slumberdown perfect for chilly nights 15 tog duvet: £18.23, Amazon.co.uk
  • Best for hot sleepers – Simba hybrid three-in-one duvet: £349, Simbasleep.com
  • Best for all seasons– Soak & Sleep all seasons soft as down microfibre 18 tog (4.5 + 13.5 tog) duvet: £164, Soakandsleep.com
  • Best value for money – Premier Inn luxury duvet 10.5 tog: £30, Premierinnathome.com

How I tested

I tried out each and every duvet on the list to find the best to keep us warm all winter long (Sarah Jones/The Independent)

As The Independent’s sleep expert, I’ve been testing bedding (including the best mattresses and mattress toppers) for years. But I’ve also been compiling this guide to the best winter duvets since 2023. Some of the duvets I’ve included, I’ve had in my home since I first wrote the review, while others are new additions.

I’ve been sleeping my way through a stack of winter and all-season duvets, all in the name of research (and a good night’s sleep), of course. From synthetic duvets to traditional feather and down, I put each one to the test to see which truly delivered on warmth, comfort, and that all-important snuggle factor.

I wasn’t the only tester. I share my bed with my partner, so I had a second opinion on which duvets kept us both cosy without overheating, which is no small feat when one of us runs hot, and the other (me) is perpetually freezing. Add to that a small child who occasionally decides to climb in, and these duvets had to perform under real-life conditions.

I paid attention to how each one handled warmth, breathability, weight, and overall quality, as well as how easy they were to care for. Any duvet that could be popped in the washing machine automatically earned bonus points. You can read more about the testing process at the end of this guide. Please note that all prices listed below are for a standard UK double.
