The best juicers can whiz up fruit and veg at the press of a button. Creating healthy, delicious drinks (think detox smoothies or fresh juices), these handy kitchen gadgets are a far cry from the manual juicers of days gone by.

With impressive technology to boot, you can juice pretty much anything in some of the machines I tested, from watermelon and oranges to mango or apples. When it comes to choosing the right juicer for you, there are two types to consider – centrifugal and slow juicers – depending on what fruit or vegetables you’d like to blitz up.

So, what’s the difference? “Centrifugal juicers are fast because they need to spin the juice out through a filter with centrifugal force, which takes a lot of speed – from 3,000RPM and upwards,” explains Elias Ebert, managing director of commercial juice machine supplier iSqueeze. “Slow juicers use a pressing force to get the juice through the filter without it disintegrating in the process,” says Ebert.

To bring you our pick of the best juicers on the market right now, I put both types of appliance to the test.

How I tested

I tested these juicers straight out of the box, considering each with the strict testing criteria below.

We looked for juicers that gave us smooth results and were a doddle to clean

  • Ease of use: Firstly, I assessed how easy each juicer was to set up and use to whether they had any particularly helpful settings that assisted the blitzing process.
  • Features: I looked for useful features like suction feet that prevents the appliance from moving, as well as taking note of the charging design (USB or mains).
  • End results: I also looked at the end results – whether I got a fresh juice that went down smoothly or if the pulp was still present.
  • Cleaning: Finally, I tested the juicers on how easy they were to clean – no one wants to spend longer than they have to in the kitchen, after all.

Why you can trust IndyBest reviews

Sarah Finley has been writing for The Independent since 2017, covering home appliances. She’s reviewed everything from rice cookers and green powders to bread makers and vacuum cleaners, so she knows her way around top kitchen appliances and applies the same thorough testing techniques to every product. She is also no stranger to a health kick, making her the ideal person to put a wide range of juicers through their paces.
