Ben Cousins is set to make his return to the footy pitch and will line up next to Cyril Rioli for an AFL Legends game at Marvel Stadium on August 28.

The West Coast Eagles legend, now 47, retired from AFL footy nearly 15 years ago and the offer to pull the boots back on proved too sweet for him.

‘I think it might be time to dust them [the footy boots] off. One game, hey? I can get myself up for one! It should be a bit of fun… I’m looking forward to it,’ Cousins said on Mix94.5’s Pete & Kymba on Monday.

And ahead of the match, the 2005 Brownlow Medallist is looking in tip-top shape, publishing several snaps of himself on social media, cutting a toned figure during a recent holiday in Broome.

However, while Cousins has been working on his fitness of late, he’s also been seen enjoying a few sweet treats.

The Eagles premiership winner has appeared on Mix94.5 in recent months to rank the best cinnamon scroll in Perth.

The station took to Instagram on Wednesday to publish a clip of Cousins tucking into multiple pastries, laughing and grinning as he sampled each one.

At the end of the tasting session, Cousins ranked Cottesloe-based North Street Store’s cinnamon scroll as his favourite.

Cousins has credited his body transformation to clean living and strict training discipline.

‘I wouldn’t even butter my toast,’ the footy great explained, describing the diligent lengths he has gone to, in order to stay fit and healthy.

The Eagles star, who hung up his boots in 2010 after a season-long spell with Richmond, blends weight training, cardio and recovery days into his programme, while also focusing on holistic wellness.

He is one of several huge names set to take to the field at the Marvel Stadium at the end of August, revealing the player who he was most excited to play alongside.

‘Shane Crawford is the coach; Nick Riewoldt is the captain. I only decided [to play] over the weekend. But, for me, the chance to play alongside Cyril, you know? I’m excited about that,’ he said.

‘It’s a big thing; he was just such a great player.

The 47–year–old has kept himself in great shape – and joked ‘how hard can it be?’ when he was asked about having just over three weeks to prepare for the AFL Legends match

‘Everyone’s situation is different but because he was 28 when he stopped playing, we all felt he had so much good footy left in him.

‘To see him run around and have a kick is so exciting and I’m looking forward to handpassing to him or getting one off him!’

Cousins was reminded that the game was looming on the horizon, with only three weeks to go until the big day.

But on the prospect of returning to the footy pitch he replied: ‘It’s supposed to be like riding a bike, isn’t it?

‘It’s a young man’s game but I can get myself up for one, surely. How hard can it be?’
