The cons (and the simple solutions)
Of course, including a pet isn’t without its considerations, but most potential challenges are easily solved with the right planning and venue choice.
“It’ll be stressful having to look after them.”
This is one of the biggest worries couples have – and understandably so. The solution? Don’t try to do it yourselves. Many couples ask a trusted friend, family member or professional dog sitter to be on pet duty for the day. Some venues are also experienced with pets on site and can advise on how best to manage timings so your pet is involved without being overwhelmed.
“What if they get nervous or overstimulated?”
Not every pet needs to be present all day. In fact, many couples choose to include their pet just for the ceremony or photos, before letting them go and relax. Quiet spaces, outdoor areas and flexible schedules make this much easier – which is why choosing the right venue matters so much.
“Venues don’t always allow pets.”
This is where early research pays off. Some venues allow pets in theory but aren’t truly set up for them. Others have clear, sensible guidelines that make the experience smoother for everyone. For example, venues that allow dogs for ceremonies and photographs, but keep food service areas pet-free, strike a good balance between inclusion and practicality.
“What about overnight stays?”
If staying over is important, check accommodation policies early. Some venues offer limited pet-friendly rooms with an additional cleaning fee, which is usually well worth it for peace of mind. Planning this in advance avoids last-minute stress and ensures everyone is comfortable.
