Bayern Munich break silence after their move for Chelsea forward Nicolas Jackson collapsed at the 11th hour

A Bayern Munich chief have spoken out after the club’s move for Chelsea star Nicolas Jackson collapsed on Saturday.

On Saturday the Bavarian giants were reported to have agreed a deal that would see the Senegalese forward join Vincent Kompany’s side on loan for the 2025/26 campaign.

The move would also see Bayern pay a world-record £13million fee for loaning Jackson with the option to pay an additional £56.2m next summer to make the move permanent.

However, despite the deal appearing close to being finalised Chelsea ultimately cancelled the transfer after Liam Delap was injured in their win over Fulham and ordered Jackson to return to west London.

The decision will have no doubt been a frustrating one, but sporting director Max Eberl claimed after Bayern’s 3-2 win over Augsburg that they were powerless to intervene.

‘It was relatively close before the game,’ Eberl said per BILD.

‘Chelsea informed us that they would like the player back after we reached an agreement yesterday and were allowed to undergo the medical. The situation now is that the boy is here in Munich, but we are sending him back.’

It is believed that Jackson was less than pleased in finding out the news, with the player’s agent reportedly suggesting they were prepared to remain in Munich in order to force through a deal.

Eberl meanwhile, admitted that without a signed contract the move was unlikely to be revived.

He continued: ‘First of all, I’m not in a position to act. We acted, we would have liked to act, we would have liked to have done the examination and signed the contract.

‘That’s not possible now, and we’ll tell the player and his agent that they have to go back because Chelsea… We simply don’t have a signed contract.

‘We have 48 hours left. This isn’t a situation we could really plan for, but we’ll try to find a solution there as well.’

Chelsea had spent the last month searching for a new home for Jackson after bringing in Delap and Joao Pedro amid a significant summer of trading.

Delap’s injury, described as ‘not good’ by Maresca, would have left them short in the striker position. They can also use Tyrique George, Pedro Neto, Cole Palmer and Estevao Willian up top, but none are true No 9s.

Rather than being sent to train with the ‘bomb squad’ at Cobham, Jackson had been training with Maresca’s first team over the last month in case he stayed.
