Barcelona vs Newcastle betting tips
Newcastle and Barcelona go head-to-head at the Camp Nou tonight with the tie perfectly poised at 1-1 after the first leg, but things could have been so much better for Eddie Howe’s side (5:45pm, TNT Sports 2 and discovery+).
Harvey Barnes gave Newcastle the lead with just four minutes to go at St James’ Park last Tuesday, only for the visitors to equalise from the penalty spot after Dani Olmo was fouled by Malick Thiaw.
Lamine Yamal scored the penalty with the last kick of the game, and it is Barca who are favourites to progress to the quarter-finals on betting sites, with the Magpies as big as 13/5 to go through to the next round.
This will be the third meeting of the season between the two sides, but the first in Spain, and Barcelona are unbeaten so far with a 2-1 win back in match week one courtesy of two goals from Marcus Rashford.
Howe’s side have only won one of the six meetings to date, and that was at home, on their first ever meeting, back in 1997. Faustino Asprilla was the hero that night, scoring a hat trick in a 3-2 win, which saw Luis Enrique and Luis Figo on target for the Spanish giants.
Michael Reiziger scored the only goal of the game in the return match at the Camp Nou, in a season that both sides bowed out in the group stages.
The only other meeting at the Nou Camp was a 3-1 win for the home side, back in December 2002, with goals from Dani, Patrick Kluivert and Thiago Motta, while Shola Ameobi scored Newcastle’s only goal of the night.
Barcelona vs Newcastle betting preview: Nou Camp no good for Magpies
Newcastle go into the game on the back of a good away win at Chelsea at the weekend. Anthony Gordon scored the only goal of the game in the first half to secure their fourth away win in their last five matches.
They also won at Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa and Qarabag in their play-off tie to reach the last 16. In this competition, they have also won at Union St Gilloise and drawn at Bayer Leverkusen and Paris St Germain.
Barcelona also won last time out, beating Sevilla 5-2 in LaLiga on Sunday. A Raphinha hat-trick and goals from Dani Olmo and Joao Cancelo made it four wins from their last four in the league, and they sit four points clear of Real Madrid at the top of the table.
The five-time champions have progressed in ten of their 15 previous Champions League two-legged ties against English opposition, while Newcastle have won one and lost two of their three previous UEFA two-legged ties against Spanish opposition.
More impressive is the fact that Hansi Flick’s side has won 15 of their last 16 ties at this stage of the competition overall, and while they have great form in this competition, it’s been 11 years since they last lifted the trophy.
Barcelona have only failed to score in one of their last 29 Champions League matches but have not kept a clean sheet in their last 12 games in the competition. While Newcastle have scored in all 11 ties this season.

Yamal to strike again
Lamine Yamal is just one goal away from equalling the record for the most Champions League goals scored before turning 19. The current record is held by Kylian Mbappé, who struck ten times before his 19th birthday.
The youngster has 12 goal involvements in his last 11 home matches in the competition, with six goals and six assists.
If he plays in this match, it will be his first knockout stage match in the competition played at the Camp Nou – 911 days after making his first European appearance for the club.
His 90th-minute strike in the first leg was his 20th goal of the season for his club, and he goes into the game with five goals in his last five games.
He’s among the favourites on football betting sites to score anytime tonight, or you can get 5/1 on him scoring first, which he has done six times so far this season.
