  • Geelong star is poised to star in Yesterday’s Hero

AFL pin-up Bailey Smith has been approached by producers for a movie role with controversial footy identity Warwick Capper.

Whether the Geelong midfielder accepts the offer is another matter, but Capper believes Smith would be the perfect choice to play his son in the film Yesterday’s Hero.

‘I hope Bailey does our movie,’ Capper told News Corp.

‘He looks a bit like me, he’s a superstar. I like Bailey. He’s misunderstood and maligned like me. But all the w**kers and naysayers need to shut up.

‘When you’re good looking, and you’re doing amazing things, that’s what happens. It’s tall-poppy bulls**t.”

The plot of the movie is based around a comedian who experiences sudden fame, but is later banished from Hollywood following an ‘incident’.

Capper will play a footballer in Yesterday’s Hero.

In June, Capper was banned from all AFL venues for five years after he allegedly made multiple ‘vile comments’ to catering staff during the 2024 Grand Final at the MCG.

The MCC confirmed the 62-year-old will also be banned from attending other events at the Melbourne venue, including cricket fixtures and concerts.

According to the Herald Sun, Capper allegedly told a caterer at the MCG: ‘You’re a nice looking girl. You’d look good in my brothel.’

During his footy career, Capper made 124 career AFL appearances for both Sydney and the Brisbane Bears, booting 388 goals.

Meanwhile, if he agrees to take part, Smith also has previous ‘acting’ experience to call on.

He recently starred in a cheeky new TV ad for Barry, the low-carb alcoholic beverage brand co-founded by Collingwood siblings Nick and Josh Daicos.

The advertisement, which launched Barry’s new Cherry Vanilla Cola, is a playful reboot of the notorious 2001 ‘Five Cougars, Thanks’ campaign for Cougar Bourbon.

Bailey takes on the role of an handsome bartender, who leaves an attractive female customer second-guessing her drink order.

‘The campaign is fun, a bit provocative and fits the Barry brand perfectly,’ Bailey said in a statement.

‘It’s all about humour, nostalgia and not taking life too seriously.’
