  • South star to become a dad for the fourth time

Latrell Mitchell is going to be a dad for the fourth time in heartwarming news for the South Sydney superstar after a highly controversial and challenging 2025 season.

Mitchell and his long-term partner Brielle Mercy have three children together, daughters Inala and Aleena, and a son born in December 2023.

Now they have announced baby No.4 is on the way with a post to Instagram.

‘Because three kids isn’t crazy enough,’ Brielle posted, with adorable images also shared by the South Sydney Rabbitohs.

‘A new little Rabbitoh on the way. Congratulations Latrell and Brielle,’ the club posted.

The announcement attracted an outpouring of love from friends, family, teammates and NRL players and their partners.

‘Wow !! You can keep going and have 7. All the best . You might need a nanny,’ one joked.

‘OMG god no last one for me,’ Brielle replied.

It is welcome news for the South Sydney superstar, who is coming back from one of the most difficult seasons of his career.

The 2025 season proved to be one of the most turbulent of Latrell Mitchell’s career, with injuries, controversy and heavy scrutiny dominating the year.

The South Sydney Rabbitohs superstar managed just 11 appearances as recurring hamstring and quadriceps injuries repeatedly sidelined him throughout the campaign.

One of the most frustrating setbacks came when he suffered a quad injury during training, further limiting his ability to build momentum.

Off the field, Mitchell also faced controversy after a photograph emerged showing him with a white substance in a hotel room, resulting in a one-game ban and a $20,000 fine.

The incident intensified criticism surrounding the star fullback and placed additional pressure on him during an already difficult season.

His return to the fullback role under coach Wayne Bennett also failed to deliver the impact many expected.

Injuries and inconsistent involvement meant Mitchell struggled to influence games regularly, sparking debate over his work rate and overall role in the team.

With the Rabbitohs struggling early in the season, the criticism from fans and media became relentless, with some labelling him the ‘highest paid non-starter’ in the NRL.

Matters worsened when Mitchell was suspended after an ugly high tackle during a clash with the Melbourne Storm in April.

Mitchell is back to peak fitness and threw the pass for Alex Johnston to score his record-breaking try against their old rivals, the Sydney Roosters on Friday night.
