  • Brad Johnson copped a direct hit from seagull
  • Footy great laughed off the unfortunate incident

AFL great Brad Johnson has been captured on camera being the unfortunate target of a seagull’s droppings during Port Adelaide’s clash with Collingwood at the MCG on Saturday night.

The former footy star was on the boundary line reporting for Fox Footy alongside Eddie Betts when a pesky seagull flew overhead and dumped a nasty surprise on his navy blue jacket.

The moment was not shown live on TV, but was captured by the cameras – and the Fox Footy team delighted in replaying the moment during a break.

‘Always an issue at the MCG, the seagulls,’ Mark Howard said

‘If you missed some of the halftime break, the smiling assassin Brad Johnson was doing his thing, he was looking like a male model and having a chat with Eddie.

‘Just keep an eye on the lapel. Johnno, you didn’t miss a beat great man.’

Johnson laughed off the unfortunate moment.

‘Oh, it looks fake doesn’t it,’ he said while watching a replay.

‘What a shot. Where’s the fake eagles up on top of the roof here? Where have they gone?’

The camera then showed a flock of seagulls as Anthony Hudson enquired: ‘Who do you think is the guilty party?’

Johnson replied: ‘Seriously. I’m glad I got a TattsLotto ticket for tonight because it’s meant to be good luck isn’t it?’

All-Australian defender Dan Houston returned to haunt his former side as Collingwood emphatically opened their account for the AFL season with a 91-point thrashing of Port Adelaide.

After being run ragged by GWS in the opening round, the rampant Magpies were full of energy in a 21.10 (136) to 6.9 (45) win over the Power.

It was the Pies’ biggest winning margin of premiership coach Craig McRae’s four-season tenure and Port’s heaviest defeat in 275 games under Ken Hinkley.

All eyes were on Houston, who forced a trade out of Port Adelaide last October and made his belated Collingwood debut after completing a lengthy suspension.

The 27-year-old half-back was up to the task as one of the Magpies’ best afield with 27 disposals, 10 intercept possessions and six score involvements.

‘He’s a great pick-up, a talented player,’ McRae said.

‘When you have someone come to your club, you have this great optimism about what they’re going to bring.

‘But when they’re actually in your system you go, ‘Woah, he’s going to make a difference’.

‘Not only does he win the ball in the air, he wins it on the ground and then he uses the ball ridiculously well.

‘He’s a rare talent and we’re very happy to have him.’
