  • Shifts focus from Olympic ambitions toward impending motherhood

Australian sprint star Bree Masters has shared the biggest news of her life, revealing she is expecting her first child in an emotional announcement.

The 30-year-old Olympian, who made history at the Paris Games, took to social media to unveil what she described as her ‘little secret’ in a heartfelt video.

In the clip, Masters surprised her husband, fellow sprinter Matt Rizzo, with the life-changing news he is set to become a father.

‘Half of you + half of me,’ she wrote alongside a series of intimate images showing the couple embracing and cradling her growing baby bump.

‘We can’t wait to meet you in October little one.’

The post also featured ultrasound images and glimpses of the couple’s poodle, Maple, as part of the deeply personal reveal.

Masters later shared footage of the exact moment Rizzo arrived home to the surprise, capturing his emotional reaction as the couple marked the beginning of a new chapter together.

The announcement comes less than two years after the pair tied the knot in November 2024, shortly following Masters’ breakthrough Olympic campaign.

The Sydney-born sprinter etched her name into Australian athletics history in Paris, becoming the first Australian woman since the Sydney 2000 Games to reach the 100m semi-finals.

It marked a remarkable rise for an athlete who only switched to track sprinting in 2019 after beginning her career on the beach sprinting circuit.

Her journey to the Olympic stage was anything but straightforward.

Masters narrowly missed selection for the Tokyo Olympics by just 0.06 seconds, a setback that proved to be a turning point in her career.

Since then, she has steadily built momentum, representing Australia at multiple World Championships and claiming a relay bronze medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Her progression has been guided by coach Ryan Hoffman, who has worked closely with her as she refined her technique and transitioned fully into elite track competition.

Off the track, Masters has become known for her relentless discipline and structured lifestyle.

Balancing elite sport with a career in PR and marketing, she has spoken openly about her demanding routine, which often begins before 6am and includes long training sessions, recovery work, and commuting between the Gold Coast and Brisbane.

‘I’m rigid in it. I love my routine,’ she said previously.

‘There really is great balance between the two. I’m not just all in on athletics — I’m all in on both of them.’
