  • Had successful surgery in August after kidney tumour

Triple Olympic gold medallist Jess Fox has revealed the arduous sporting journey which awaits following kidney surgery to remove a tumour.

Fox, 31, recently took to Instagram, telling her 320,000 plus followers her aim is to ‘fall in love with the comeback’ and embrace ‘slow progress.’

‘After surgery to remove a kidney tumour, I had to listen to my body and stop, rest and heal,’ she posted.

‘First it’s slow movement, (basically) mobility. Then it’s push ups on your knees, then one on your toes.

‘(After that) its light weights. Starting back on the flatwater, then turning and finally feeling the whitewater again.

‘Can’t tell you how good that first easy float down the rapids felt…. step by step.

‘It’s nice to be back out there…. with a great team around me.’

In August, Fox dropped a bombshell after confirming she was recovering after successful surgery on her kidney.

The setback meant Fox missed the ICF Slalom World Championships in Penrith from September 29 to October 4.

Fox became an all-time Aussie sporting great when she snared two golds at the Paris Games – to go along with the gold she took home at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.

That success saw her in high demand from sponsors including Adidas, Red Bull, Toyota and L’Oreal Paris as she prepares for the LA Olympics in 2028.

Fox is regarded by many good judges as the greatest female paddler of all time and was coached by her mum Myriam Fox-Jerusalmi, a bronze medallist in the discipline for France at the 1996 Olympics.

Fox’s father Richard is a five-time world champion who represented Great Britain at the Barcelona Games in 1992.

She has also won 22 career medals at the Slalom World Championships, including an incredible 14 golds.

Four-time Olympian Fox served as one of Australia’s flagbearers at the opening ceremony in France last year, a feat she called ‘probably the greatest moment of my career.’
