Rugby stars Charlotte Caslick and partner Lewis Holland have revealed they’re expecting their first child in an announcement that was greeted with joy by some of the biggest names in Aussie footy.

Caslick – who won gold at the 2016 Olympics with the Aussie sevens team – dropped the bombshell on Instagram on Saturday, posting a photo of her showing off her pregnancy test with Holland, accompanied by the simple caption ‘Mum and dad’.

The 30-year-old star also posted a pic of her growing baby bump and a short video of the heartwarming moment she revealed the news to her teammates.

Her announcement saw the couple get congratulated by the Australian Olympic team, footy star Bridget Hoy, the AFLW’s Lexi Hamilton, the Queensland Reds and Nine NRLW commentator Allana Ferguson.

Caslick’s fellow footy stars Maddison Levi, Teagan Levi, Emma Verran and Georgie Friedrichs also chimed in to the comments section.

NRLW and Channel Nine star Millie Boyle – who was out of the game last year while pregnant with her daughter – couldn’t hide her joy as she wrote, ‘Congrats Charlotte!!!! So happy for you both.’

The Brisbane-born Olympian made her rugby sevens debut for Australia in 2013 and has since scored 186 tries in 328 games for the national side.

She was named Australia’s rugby sevens player of the year in 2016, represented her country in touch footy, dabbled in rugby league when she played two games for the Roosters in 2020, and won rugby sevens gold at the Commonwealth Games.

Caslick captained the Aussie team at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, where she and her teammates were left in tears as they went from gold-medal favourites to losing the playoff for bronze in a huge upset to the USA.

Holland has been part of the Australian men’s rugby sevens team since 2011, and played Super Rugby for the Melbourne Rebels.

He and Caslick were already an item when they both starred for their country at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro.

In 2021, the couple opened up about life on their cattle property near the Queensland town of Stanthorpe, about 220km south-west of Brisbane.

‘My dream as a child wasn’t to represent Australia, it was to go and work on a cattle station,’ Holland told the ABC.

‘I’ve done that and [now I] obviously play footy in the spare time.’

Caslick revealed she had big plans for the couple’s highland cattle, which Holland called their ‘fluffy cows’.

‘I’m going to breed them and sell them to hobby farmers or people who want them as pets,’ she said.

‘We’re hoping to buy an Airbnb and have them where people can feed and play with them.’

She has been out of action for the last six months with a fractured ankle, with the setback ruling her out of the 2025 Rugby World Cup – but she’s not giving up on her dream of more gold-medal glory.

‘I definitely want to still be around for the next Olympics,’ she said of the Los Angeles Games in 2028.

‘Obviously, missing out on the World Cup last year, I think I’ll try and stay around for the ’29 World Cup, especially [with it] being at home.

‘I think it’ll be a great place to end my career.’
