A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after two reported shootings in Manchester.

Greater Manchester Police said it received reports of two shootings in Newton Heath – one on Ainthorpe Street and another on Ballantine Street – at about 22:00 BST on Tuesday.

A man, who police said was not the intended target, received minor head injuries in the Ainthorpe Street incident.

No injuries were reported following what happened on Ballantine Street, the force said.

A 34-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of two counts of attempted murder, possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life, and assault.

He remains in police custody.

Det Insp Mark Hodgson said: “Officers have taken proactive action through additional patrols and are following multiple lines of inquiry.

“We will continue to have a presence in the area so please speak to our officers if you have any concerns.”
