Aston Villa have made an improved £21m bid for Borussia Dortmund forward Donyell Malen.
Negotiations between the two clubs continue after Villa’s opening £15million plus bonuses offer fell short of the £25m fee the Bundesliga outfit are looking to receive.
This week, Mail Sport revealed that Unai Emery’s side had rekindled their interest in 25-year-old.
The improved bid from the Champions League surprise package are looking to bring Malen to the club in a bid to continue their quest to finish in the top four for the second consecutive season.
Malen can play across the front line, predominantly on the right wing, and would give Villa extra pace plus depth and quality for Emery in attacking positions.
The Netherlands international has 18 months remaining on his contract at the Westfalenstadion and Dortmund could be willing to sell in January to avoid him leaving for free.

Meanwhile, Villa are also locked in talks with Paris St Germain with the French giant keen on striker Jhon Duran but he would not be sold cheaply by the Premier League outfit.
Duran has bagged 12 goals in all competitions for Villa this season but has largely been restricted to making appearances from the bench with Ollie Watkins often preferred upfront by Emery.
The 21-year-old could be tempted to ditch English football in favour of joining PSG who can offer regular Champions League football and silverware to the deadly finisher.
PSG’s frontline could have space available this winter if Randal Kolo Muani departs the club amid a bounty of interest from Premier League suitors.
Villa have an interest in the Frenchman who is also a loan target for Tottenham, Juventus and Manchester United.
