Arsenal defender Gabriel has signed a new four-year contract, extending his stay at the Emirates until 2029.

Having arrived from Lille in 2020, the centre back has made 210 appearances for the Gunners, and has been an integral piece in their resurgence as regular Premier League title challengers this decade.

Gabriel was sorely missed by Arsenal towards the end of the season after he suffered a hamstring injury that resulted in surgery.

However, the 27-year-old – regarded as one of the best in his position in the league – is expected to be fit in time for the start of next season.

After signing his new deal, Gabriel said: ‘I arrived here as a young player and after almost five years I’m so happy and I’ve learned a lot.

‘I’m so proud of myself, it’s an amazing journey, and I’m so happy to continue it. I hope I win some trophies with this club, because I love this club and my family loves the club, too.

Gabriel has signed a new four-year deal, keeping him at Arsenal until the summer of 2029

‘Arsenal is an amazing club and I’m so proud to sign a new contract. I love this club, I love the supporters, my teammates, I love this stadium. I’m so proud and thank you for all the support. We continue together for the future.’

The Brazilian began his career in his home country at Avai, where he signed his first professional contract at the age of 16.

In January 2017, Gabriel joined Ligue 1 side Lille, for which he made 52 appearances across two-and-a-half seasons, before leaving for north London.

His time at the French club saw him endure two loan spells – at Troyes and Dinamo Zagreb in 2017-18.

Arsenal beat multiple clubs to his signing in the summer of 2020, culminating in a £27million deal after add-ons.

Gabriel was included in the PFA Team of the Year in 2023-24 and is also a regular starter for his national team.
