An Arsenal star had to be substituted after just five minutes against Liverpool after suffering an injury.

William Saliba had to go off, with Cristhian Mosquera replacing him at centre-back.

It represents another injury blow for Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta to contend with.

Arsenal went into the game without Bukayo Saka, who suffered a hamstring problem against Leeds last weekend.

Kai Havertz is sidelined with a knee problem that could keep him out until November, while Ben White and Christian Norgaard are also unavailable along with long-term absentee Gabriel Jesus.

Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard also suffered a shoulder injury against Leeds but he was fit enough to be named on the bench at Anfield.

Arsenal will certainly hope that Saliba’s injury isn’t a major one given his importance to the team.

The centre-back has been named in the France squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Ukraine and Iceland but it remains to be seen if he will be able to feature in those games.

Arsenal’s first game after the international break is at home to Nottingham Forest on September 13.
