Manchester United target Senne Lammens was spotted in the stands for Royal Antwerp’s match on Sunday as he closes in on a move to the Premier League.

Lammens did not feature in Antwerp’s clash with Mechelen as his £17million move to Old Trafford is close to being finalised.

The 23-year-old was replaced by Yannick Thoelen in the starting line-up, with the shot-stopped not even named on the bench.

He was later seen watching from the stands as Antwerp claimed a 2-1 home victory.

United have been pushing for new goalkeeper this summer to provide competition for Andre Onana between the sticks.

Onana was left out of the squad for United’s Premier League opener last weekend, with Altay Bayindir deputising in goal against Arsenal.

The Turkish goalkeeper ultimately failed to impress in just his fifth league start for the club and was at fault for Riccardo Calafiori’s goal in the 1-0 defeat.

Despite looking to bolster their options in the transfer market, United are understood to be intent on keeping Onana at the club this summer having rebuffed enquiries from multiple clubs.

Aston Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez was considered as a potential option but the Argentina international was deemed too expensive.

Lammens, a 6ft 3in Belgium youth international, made his debut for Bruges in July 2021 before moving to Antwerp two years later, making a first appearance for the club that November in a Champions League defeat to Porto.

Between 1998 and 2013 United had a partnership with Antwerp that saw multiple Carrington academy graduates get their first taste of senior football at the Belgian club.

The likes of John O’Shea, Danny Simpson and current United goalkeeper Tom Heaton all spent time on loan in the Belgian Pro League as part of the agreement.
