Brazilian winger Antony has revealed one of the reasons why he struggled at Manchester United.

The 25-year-old has been an instant hit at Real Betis with four goals and four assists in his first 10 matches for the Spanish side.

His recent form has been in stark contrast to his miserable spell in Manchester following an £85million move from Ajax in 2022.

Antony scored just 12 goals in 96 appearances for the Red Devils, and he says the poor English weather contributed to his struggles.

‘The sun here helps a lot, and the city (Seville) is better than Manchester’.

Antony scored his latest goal goal for Betis in their conference League win over Vitoria on Thursday.

Ruben Amorim claimed Antony struggled to cope with the physicality of the Premier League

Ruben Amorim claimed Antony struggled to cope with the physicality of the Premier League

Earlier this month, United boss Ruben Amorim claimed the former Ajax star was unable to deal with the physicality of the Premier League.

‘When you play against any team in England, the physicality is there. If you don’t have physicality, you will struggle a lot,’ Amorim told Rio Ferdinand on TNT Sports.

‘Antony is so much better now in Spain. It’s [because of] a lot of factors but I guarantee you it’s physicality.’

As part of their loan agreement with United, Betis have agreed to cover a large portion of his salary – reportedly upwards of £100,000, which equates to 84 per cent of his Red Devils earnings.

Betis have already made it clear that they are open to keeping Antony on a permanent deal, while United will now be looking to recoup a portion of the sum they spent to sign him in 2022.
