Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson has agreed to be traded by the team, according to reports.

Richardson, who was the No. 4 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, lost his starting spot in Indianapolis last season following the arrival of Daniel Jones.

The 23-year-old has been left out in the cold ever since, and now NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe is reporting that both he and the Colts have mutually agreed to seek a trade this offseason.

As well as suffering a number of injuries, which have restricted him to just 17 games in three years, Richardson has struggled for accuracy during his time in Indianapolis, completing just 47.7 percent of his passes in the 2024 campaign.

He only threw two passes in as many appearances last year, completing one of them, after falling behind Jones in the pecking order.

Nevertheless, the former Florida star wasn’t even active from mid-October onwards after fracturing the orbital bone near his eye in a bizarre pregame accident.

It’s widely expected that Jones, formerly of the New York Giants, will sign a new contract with the Colts and continue to serve as starter once he recovers from an Achilles injury.

Indianapolis believe 2025 sixth-round pick Riley Leonard is capable of being his backup, meaning opportunities for Richardson would be in short supply next season.

After Jones suffered a torn right Achilles tendon when he tried to play through a fractured lower left leg, the team’s season unraveled quickly as a seven-game losing streak knocked them out of the playoffs once again.

Colts head coach Shane Steichen and general manager Chris Ballard now face a huge offseason after being given a stay of execution by owner Carlie Irsay-Gordon.

In her most significant move since taking over the franchise’s day-to-day operations from her late father, Jim, Irsay-Gordon ignored the urge and calls from some fans to fire the pair.

Ballard has just two playoff appearances and one postseason win in his nine-year tenure, while Steichen is 25-26 in three seasons and has never made it to the playoffs.
