Anthony Richardson is reportedly considering asking for a trade away from the Indianapolis Colts.

The former first-round NFL draft pick lost his starting spot after a quarterback battle with Daniel Jones during preseason.

It’s now widely expected that Jones, formerly of the New York Giants, will sign a new contract with the Colts and be their starter once he recovers from his Achilles injury.

That leaves Richardson out in the cold and ESPN has claimed Richardson, who is still only 23, will try and seek a way out of Indianapolis.

The Colts believe 2025 sixth-round pick Riley Leonard is capable of being Jones’ backup, meaning opportunities for Richardson will be in short supply next season.

In addition to dealing with an array of injuries since being selected with the No. 4 overall pick in 2023, Richardson has struggled with his accuracy and threw only two passes in 2025.

The No. 4 pick in the 2023 draft wasn’t even active after mid-October after fracturing the orbital bone near his eye in a bizarre pregame accident.

Colts head coach Shane Steichen and general manager Chris Ballard face a huge offseason after being given a stay of execution by owner Carlie Irsay-Gordon.

After Jones suffered a torn right Achilles tendon when he tried to play through a fractured lower left leg, the Colts’ season unraveled quickly as a seven-game losing streak knocked them out of the playoffs again.

Yet in her most significant move since taking over the franchise’s day-to-day operations from her late father, Jim, Irsay-Gordon ignored the urge and calls from some fans to fire Ballard and Steichen.

Ballard has just two playoff appearances and one postseason win in his nine-year tenure, while Steichen is 25-26 in three seasons and has never made it to the playoffs.

But Richardson is unlikely to feature in their plans and attention will turn to what compensation they can get for him going into this year’s draft.
