Angel Reese makes WNBA history despite Chicago Sky’s latest defeat

WNBA star Angel Reese has become known for her dominance in the paint and, on Sunday, wrote herself into the record books for that exact reason.

Reese took to the court for the Chicago Sky’s game against the Minnesota Lynx but was unable to prevent an 80-75 loss to kick-start their four-game road trip.

The defeat saw the Sky’s record drop to 5-12 in the 2025 season despite the best efforts of Reese, 23, who scored 16 points in 37 minutes.

Reese also produced an impressive 17 rebounds in the game and, by doing so, broke WNBA records.

The Sky star became the first player in league history to get 15 or more rebounds in five straight games. She also did so against Atlanta Dream, Golden State Valkyries and twice against the Los Angeles Sparks.

In three out of those five games, Reese managed to produce more rebounds that points – proving her dominance inside the paint.

Last month, Reese filed to trademark the term ‘Mebounds’ – term stemming from her habit of missing layups and snagging the offensive rebound.

However, almost immediately after doing so, it appeared as though Reese’s trademark filing had severely backfired after she struggled for the Sky.

During the Sky’s devastating 107-86 loss to the Phoenix Mercury at the back end of June, Reese managed just nine points, two assists and a mere two rebounds.

The forward’s meagre tally marked a career-low in rebounds for the LSU product.

However, Reese has evidently put that evening behind her and has rediscovered her best form for the Sky.

Her displays on the court has seen Reese be named in her second All-Star Game but only as a reserve – after failing to receive enough votes to be a starter.

Only time will tell as to which All-Star captain – either Caitlin Clark or Napheesa Collier – will select Reese for the highly-anticipated game.

In May, Reese had to be restrained after Clark knocked her down and caused her to spill the ball moments after she grabbed an offensive rebound near the end of the third quarter.

Reese then walked to the side of the court where a Sky official stepped in front of her to try and get her to cool her temper.
