Alan Shearer reveals why he thinks there IS a way back for Alexander Isak at Newcastle despite star going on STRIKE to force Liverpool move

Alan Shearer insists that Alexander Isak may still have a way back in at Newcastle if the Swedish striker is still playing for the club when the transfer window ends.

‘Yeah, I do (see a way back). The longer it goes on, it will be difficult,’ Shearer, a Betfair Ambassador, told Daily Mail Sport.

‘It’s a big if but if he comes back in – once you start scoring goals then that changes things. I’m not privy to what’s going on right now so I haven’t got a clue what’s going to happen in the next few days,’ he added.

Shearer, who captained Newcastle from 1998 to 2006, admitted that the current situation is far from ideal for both Isak and Newcastle, with the 25-year-old still pushing for a move to Liverpool.

Last week, Shearer branded Isak ‘nonsensical’ for issuing a statement saying that the relationship between him and Newcastle could not continue. The former Newcastle striker also called for Isak to sack his agent due to the ‘f****** mess’ he is in.

‘It’s a really difficult situation for the player and the football club. And it’s not nice for the manager to be facing those questions every day. The team is far more important than any individual,’ he said.

Asked what he would have done if he was still Newcastle captain, Shearer said: ‘At the beginning you possibly would try to have a word.

‘The longer it goes on, you leave that to the powers to be – whether that’s the manager or the owners. But it’s been going on for such a long time now.’

‘As a captain, you’ve got to make sure that all the other players are aligned, saying the same thing and wanting the same thing. Judging by the first couple of matches, the Newcastle players are. They’ve only got one point from the first two games, but their performances deserved more.’

Alan Shearer was speaking at the launch of Betfair’s Safe Sub: when your player comes off, it’s not over yet. Your bet rolls onto the player coming on: applies on selected leagues and markets.
