AFL bigwig brought a case of VB to Albo’s house but the PM refuse to drink it – and his choice of beer will confirm a lot of Aussies’ suspicions about him

  • Hawks officials rocked up to Kirribilli House with VB

Hawthorn president Andrew Gowers surprised Anthony Albanese with a case of VB  after the footy – but the PM preferred a beer that’s been named after him.

The Hawks sensationally prevailed in a fourth-quarter shootout with GWS two weeks ago, claiming a 19-point victory to advance to another Adelaide Oval semi-final, which they also won.

Senior Hawks staff were invited for a drink back at Kirribilli House after the Giants match, and Gowers picked up a slab of Victoria Bitter, reports The Age.

‘When you are a guest of someone’s house, you should take something,’ Gowers said.

‘I thought to myself, what better than some Victoria Bitter to give the Sydney and Canberra-based prime minister?’

However, the VBs were not touched with the PM instead serving ‘Albo Pale Ale’, brewed in Sydney’s inner west by Willie The Boatman.

Afterwards, the PM showed Hawks top brass around his residence and the stunning views of Sydney Harbour.

The PM’s side will next meet arch-rivals Geelong in a blockbuster AFL preliminary final on Friday.

Jack Gunston, Jack Ginnivan and Jarman Impey were all sore after last week’s barnstorming away semi-final win over Adelaide.

But coach Sam Mitchell said before training on Wednesday that they will play against the Cats at the MCG.

‘Everyone’s healthy, yeah,’ Mitchell said.

”Gunners’ doesn’t train that much anyway. I don’t know exactly what he’s doing, but I don’t imagine he’s doing everything.’

Gunston’s five goals against Adelaide continued his outstanding All-Australian season, and Mitchell was asked if anything about the performance last Friday night had surprised him.

‘Only just that he wandered off holding his hamstring late – it was a bit of a concern,’ Mitchell said of the veteran.

‘But I was pleased it all came through clear.

‘He’s played some really consistent footy for us, in a tough role to be consistent.’
