View active travel plans for your local council area and have your say on priorities and delivery.
The Department for Infrastructure is running a number of public engagement events for the Active Travel Delivery Plan from January 2025.
The Active Travel Delivery Plan sets out how the Department will prioritise and deliver over 200km of high quality active travel infrastructure within 42 urban and rural settlements over the next ten years.
It focuses on three key connections types for each area which aim to maximise benefits for people, the environment and society. These are connections to local schools, public transport, and to town centres.
Investment in active travel infrastructure can deliver substantial economic returns. Studies have shown that redesigning urban spaces to encourage walking can lead to increased foot traffic, higher sales for local businesses, and an overall boost to the economy. Walkable, bike-friendly environments attract more residents, visitors, and developers, making communities more vibrant and commercially successful.
The consultation on the Active Travel Delivery Plan contains a number of interactive maps for each area, and you can respond until 5pm on Friday 28 February 2025.
The first four public engagement events all take place between 2pm and 7pm on the following dates and locations
- Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council – Lisburn Civic Centre – Tuesday 7 January 2025
- Causeway Coast & Glens Borough Council area – Coleraine Town Hall – Thursday 9 January 2025
