Aaron Glenn reportedly wants to keep Aaron Rodgers at the New York Jets, it has been claimed.
The 41-year-old quarterback has been coy over his NFL future, hinting that he could retire after failing to reach the playoffs with the Jets but throughout has insisted that he will speak to whoever his new head coach is first.
It was revealed on Wednesday that that man is Glenn, who will leave his defensive coordinator post with the Detroit Lions to take over in New York.
If Rodgers does return, the Jets will owe him a $35million option for bonus for bringing him back, meaning it is no small matter for Glenn as he takes the reins.
But according to Michael Kay on his ESPN New York show, the early signs are that he wants Rodgers involved.
‘There is word out there, there are leaks I’ve heard that whatever they pay Aaron Glenn, Aaron Glenn has made it known that he would like to keep Aaron Rodgers,’ Kay said.

Kay continued: ‘I really do believe that that is the way to go. I’m not enamored with Aaron Rodgers, both off the field and on the field. But I need to have a better answer if you are going to tell Aaron Rodgers “ok, we are good”.
‘If you don’t bring back Aaron Rodgers there is a big cap hit anyway. Dead cap money. But you bring him back there is still a cap hit but you know what, at least you have a quarterback.
‘He was not coached this year after Game 5 and with all due respect to Robert Saleh, who is getting some traction in his head coaching interviews, I don’t think he was coached in the first five games anyway.
You know when it was really apparent that he wasn’t coached at all? When he was allowed to miss the mandatory mini-camp. That was a small window into the fact that he ran the organization.’
Rodgers missed that three-day camp as part of a trip to Egypt and was fined by the franchise.
Speaking about it in July, Rodgers said: ‘It is what it is. I’m an adult, I knew what I was getting into, I knew the fine that was coming and also knew how much I wanted to be in Egypt.
‘I wish there hadn’t been a conflict scheduling-wise, but it was what it was.’
