Madison Square Garden is reportedly abuzz with activity as preparations for the highly anticipated wedding of pop superstar Taylor Swift and NFL star Travis Kelce get underway.
The iconic New York venue is said to be transforming for the couple’s celebrations, which are expected to commence today, Thursday 2 July.
Before her current romance with the Kansas City Chiefs tight end, Swift’s romantic history included other prominent figures, some of whom famously inspired her chart-topping hits.
Here is a timeline of Swift’s previous relationships.
Joe Jonas
The Jonas Brother was Swift’s first high-profile celebrity relationship when they dated for around four months in 2008.
She revealed on the Ellen DeGeneres Show that he broke up with her during a 25-second phone call.

She reportedly wrote the song Forever & Always about their split.
Taylor Lautner
Around a year later, Swift dated Twilight actor Taylor Lautner after they met on the set of the film Valentine’s Day, where they played a high school couple who were obsessed with each other.
Fans speculated that her song Back to December was about Lautner when the track was released nearly a year after they broke up.
John Mayer
The pop star was romantically linked with John Mayer for a few months in 2009 and 2010. The singer-songwriter was 12 years her senior.
The relationship led to her hit song Dear John from her Speak Now album.
She sings: “Dear John, I see it all now it was wrong. Don’t you think 19 is too young to be played by your dark, twisted games?”

Jake Gyllenhaal
Swift dated actor Jake Gyllenhaal for a few months from late 2010 to January 2011. The Hollywood star said to have inspired the Red album, including the song All Too Well.
Swift released the original 10-minute version in 2021 along with a short film starring Sadie Sink and Dylan O’Brien.
Harry Styles
Former One Direction star Harry Styles was pictured with Swift on an autumnal walk around Central Park in New York.
They reportedly dated from 2012 until January 2013 and the songs Out Of The Woods and Style are thought to be about the English singer.

Meanwhile, Styles’ solo song Two Ghosts, from his debut album, is believed to be about his relationship with Swift.
Calvin Harris
Swift went on to date Scottish DJ Calvin Harris for around 15 months, with rumours circulating after they were first photographed together in April 2015.
The music producer, real name Adam Richard Wiles, confirmed they had split in a June 2016 tweet where he said: “What remains is a huge amount of love and respect.”
Tom Hiddleston
Swift was linked with Loki actor Tom Hiddleston for a few months after her relationship with Harris, but reportedly ended their liaison in September 2016.
Joe Alwyn
Swift was then with London-based British actor Joe Alwyn for six years before they reportedly split up in April 2023, just weeks after the pop star embarked on her Eras world tour.
The relationship is said to have inspired a number of love songs on her albums Lover, Folklore and Evermore, with the song London Boy reportedly about Alwyn.
Matty Healy
Swift was next seen with The 1975 lead singer Matty Healy.
The pair were photographed together a number of times, and Healy was seen at one of the Eras Tour gigs.
They reportedly called it quits in June 2023.
Travis Kelce
The soon-to-be newlyweds began their relationship after the American football star revealed on his New Heights podcast that he wanted to date Swift after they failed to meet when she performed at Arrowhead Stadium – home of his NFL team the Kansas City Chiefs.
In September 2023, Swift made her first trip to watch Kelce play and was spotted sitting next to his mother, Donna.
Kelce appeared at one of Swift’s Eras Tour shows at London’s Wembley Stadium in June 2024, arriving on stage as she prepared to perform The Tortured Poets Department section of the gig.

Wearing a top hat and tails, he helped prepare her to sing I Can Do It With A Broken Heart.
The pair announced their engagement in a joint Instagram post in August 2025 with the caption: “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.”
Swift referenced Kelce in a number of songs in her latest album, The Life Of A Showgirl, including Opalite – which mentions his birth stone, opal.
The couple are expected to marry at Madison Square Garden in New York on Friday.
