Shropshire council’s supported employment service, Enable have recently achieved a first for the county and for themselves.
Thanks to support from Enable, local childcare provider Explorers Childcare Ltd have been able to gain Level 3 (Disability Confident Leader status) as part of the government’s Disability Confident kitemark award scheme.
This is the first time a Shropshire company has achieved Level 3 status in this government scheme and thanks to Enable’s commitment it won’t be the last as other organisations are currently being supported to achieve the same status.
Cecilia Motley Shropshire council Cabinet member for Adult Social Care and Public Health said of this achievement:
I am delighted that Enable have been able to contribute to Explorers Childcare Ltd gain Disability Confident Leader status and congratulations to all those involved in achieving this recognition.
This is good news for the career aspirations of people living with a disability, a boost for our local economy, and a testament to the skills, experience and professionalism of our Enable supported employment service.
Knowing that Enable are working with other organisations in the same way, shows that Shropshire is a champion for people with disabilities, and their career aspirations.
Shelly Hurdley, Director of Explorers Childcare Ltd added:
We are so pleased to be formally recognised for the hard work we have already put in and the support and opportunities we are already providing to our staff across our childcare sites and would like to thank Enable, specifically Charlotte Laws (Enable Engagement Officer), for helping us to evidence this support, in order for us to achieve the Disability Confident Leader kitemark.
I would really urge other Shropshire businesses to do the same.
