With consumers placing greater value on natural materials and longevity, British bedmaker Wrought Iron and Brass Bed Company has introduced a new mattress collection grounded in craftsmanship and purposeful design.

The Signature British Wool Mattress Collection blends hand-prepared British wool with calico pocket springs, moving away from the synthetic-heavy construction common in modern mattresses.

The collection is built around how a mattress evolves over time, not just its initial feel. Hand-teased wool creates the comfort layers, keeping fibres open and elastic. This design supports natural temperature control and provides comfort without bulk. Wool’s natural moisture regulation also helps maintain a fresher sleeping environment throughout the year.

Below the wool layers are calico pocket springs manufactured in Britain. Encased in cotton rather than synthetic materials, each spring reacts independently, enhancing airflow and reducing motion disturbance. This traditional approach complements natural fillings and is known for its durability as the mattress matures.

The Signature Collection is available in three configurations based on overall support. Rather than assigning firmness labels, customers are guided to select spring tension according to personal preference, recognising that comfort is subjective.

Amanda Oldfield says:
“We’ve never believed that comfort can be reduced to a single word. Two people can lie on the same mattress and experience it completely differently. Our role is to build something honest and adaptable, using materials that work with the body rather than against it.”

Each mattress is crafted entirely in Britain under one roof and holds Made in Britain certification. Wool is sourced directly from British farmers and remains traceable throughout production. Every mattress is signed by the lead maker and backed by a 20-year guarantee, reinforcing the brand’s commitment to durability.

Designed to be paired with a pocket-sprung base, the collection reflects a unified approach to sleep. Through careful alignment of materials and structure, it offers a natural, calm, and lasting alternative for consumers seeking quality beyond mass production.
