LeBron James has officially signed with the Philadelphia 76ers, marking the latest chapter of the 41-year-old’s illustrious NBA career.

On Friday afternoon, the basketball community was sent into a frenzy after James confirmed his intentions to sign for Philadelphia after leaving the Los Angeles Lakers.

The NBA veteran penned a heartfelt and candid message to fans explaining his decision, admitting that he believes he can turn the 76ers into ‘a championship team’.

Just two days on from that statement, the move has been made official by the NBA.

On Sunday afternoon, the league updated its transaction log, noting: ‘Philadelphia 76ers signed forward LeBron James to a Contract.’

As per reports, James has put pen to paper on a modest $8 million, two-year contract with the Sixers, according to ESPN. He made nearly $53 million last season.

As per the NBA’s transaction log, the 76ers have officially waived former first-round pick Dalen Terry in order to get James’ move to Philadelphia over the line.

In doing so, the 76ers are able to add James’ salary to its payroll without exceeding the first apron, according to NBA salary cap rules.

It also noted that, on Sunday, the Memphis Grizzlies had waived two-time NBA champion Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, who is expected to join James in Philadelphia.

The move reunites James with his former Los Angeles Lakers teammate, with whom he previously won the 2020 NBA championship inside the Orlando bubble.

James sent the league into a frenzy on Friday after sharing his emotional statement.

Taking to X, he wrote: ‘I thought I was done when the season ended. I wasn’t ready to announce it, and I knew I needed some time to really decide, but I was pretty sure I played my last game. I was honest at that last press conference when I said I needed to look at myself and decide if I still love this game.

‘I still truly love this game, and I have more to give. The last few weeks have really been special. I’ve never been able to have no clue what to do and take real time to just think. I’ve had an incredible few months with all the people I love trying to figure it all out.

‘This is my last decision. I’m not going for money. I’m not going for family. What am I really playing for at this point? I still want to sacrifice. I still want to work. I still want to grind. I still want to compete, to win and to have a chance at the feeling of winning another championship.

‘I believe I can help make the Philadelphia 76ers a championship team and I am so excited to energize a new fan base and start this incredible journey one last time. Thank you LA. Miami I’ll forever love and Northeast Ohio will always home!’

Shortly after James’ move was revealed on Friday, US President Donald Trump bizarrely took aim at the NBA legend and claimed that he is ‘racist’.

During a press conference, Trump was asked to weigh in on who holds the title of the greatest basketball player of all time.

‘Michael Jordan’s a guy that’s a friend of mine, I’ve played golf with him,’ Trump said.

‘He’s a really good guy and I think LeBron is – maybe he’s a racist, but maybe he doesn’t like Trump, I don’t know – but I only like people that like me, so I would say Michael Jordan all the way.’
