A decade after the release of the Hollywood musical La La Land, a great wrong has been put to rights.

In a poster for the 10th anniversary re-release of the film, Ryan Gosling’s hand has been subtly edited so that it points upward, mirroring that of his co-star, Emma Stone.

The original poster showed Gosling’s hand being held flat.

The actor previously said that he did not know the original image – shot in Griffith Park in Los Angeles – would be used to promote the film, and he held his hand that way because he thought it would look “cool”.

He dubbed the position the “La La Hand” and said that it “killed the energy” of the image.

The new hand position was unveiled on Tuesday in an Instagram post sharing the edited poster, with the caption: “A minor adjustment.”

In an earlier interview with the Wall Street Journal magazine, Gosling dubbed himself “Hamburger Hands Gosling” due to his awkward pose.

He said he had some dance experience prior to the film, but “it didn’t help me at all in the end”.

In March, Gosling also reenacted the pose with his Project Hail Mary costar, Rocky the alien.

In a Facebook post shared by his partner Eva Mendes, he said: “This is my hail Mary attempt to fix my La La Hand, and my buddy Rocky’s going to help me.”

He then ran into position and struck a pose, before yelling: “How’s my hand?”

In her post, Mendes said that the La La Hand was “one of Ryan’s great regrets”, and the reenactment was an attempt to “finally make things right”.

La La Land was directed by Damien Chazelle. It starred Gosling and Stone as a couple who meet and fall in love while pursuing their dreams in Los Angeles.

The film was a commercial success, grossing over 500 million dollars, and also received widespread critical acclaim.

La La Land was incorrectly announced as the winner of best picture at the 2017 Oscars by actor Faye Dunaway.

The cast and crew took to the stage before the correct winner, Moonlight, was announced.

Stone won best actress and Chazelle won best director at the ceremony.

La La Land will be re-released in US cinemas on 16 August and UK cinemas on 28 August.
