America’s Spanish-language TV network Telemundo produced an iconic moment when Ferran Torres swept home the winner for Spain in Sunday’s World Cup final.

La Roja were crowned world champions for the second time on a dramatic night in New Jersey, where Torres proved the hero in extra-time against Argentina.

After a stalemate in 90 minutes, which ended with Argentina midfielder Enzo Fernandez being sent off, Nico Williams headed a ball into the box back across goal and straight to the Barcelona star, who applied the finishing touch to finally break the deadlock in the 106th minute.

Torres’ goal sparked wild Spanish scenes inside MetLife Stadium and back home in their capital of Madrid, and Telemundo’s incredible commentary perfectly encapsulated how big of a moment it was for the country.

The network’s lead commentator, Andres Cantor, repeatedly shouted ‘Goooooooooool’ in several long bursts for close to a minute, with his passionate reaction going viral on social media.

Cantor has become famous for calling goals in that fashion over the years, though his emotional celebration of Torres’ winner is all the more remarkable given he is Argentinian.

Fans were blown away by his commentary on Sunday night, including one who wrote on X: ‘Ultimate professional. You could hear his heart wasn’t into it but he gave Spain their due.’

‘I ate an entire meal during that call,’ another user joked.

‘Someone check on Cantor,’ said a third.

A fourth put: ‘The one and only Andres Cantor….Gooooooolllllll!!!!’

While another fan quipped: ‘Held that GOOOLLL longer than I’ve ever held a relationship’.

Spain dominated Sunday’s ill-tempered final against Argentina, who failed to register a shot on target before lashing out at their opponents once the defeat was confirmed.

The defending champions were the first team in history to fail to record a shot of any kind during the initial 90 minutes of a World Cup final.

Lionel Messi and Julian Alvarez were left utterly isolated upfront, starved of service as the midfield struggled to string passes together or breach the Spanish press.

The incredible statistic painted a clear picture of Spain’s tactical superiority, with the European champions dominating proceedings in New Jersey before earning a deserved victory.

After the final whistle, Argentina midfielder Leandro Paredes was sent off for punching Eric Garcia and pushing Gavi to the ground, while Nahuel Molina also punched Rodri in the torso as he was running by in ugly scenes.
