Reigning US Open champion Wyndham Clark was spotted doing an interesting drill that struck onlookers as odd before this week’s Open Championship.
Clark was on the range on Monday at Royal Birkdale as he attempts to win back-to-back majors for the first time in his career.
But the two-time major winner didn’t only bring his clubs along with him as fans wondered why he brought along a wooden coat hanger.
As explained by the ‘Live at the Range’ team, Clark was doing a face angle drill with his club to keep the club face more square at impact by working on his wrist positioning at the top of his backswing.
Clark told reporters that his poor striking at last week’s Genesis Scottish Open led to a change in his approach for the final major of the calendar – but only temporarily.
‘You won’t see me doing a bunch of that stuff the rest of the week,’ said Clark.

Clark says his swing has ‘gotten a little off’ and was using this to set his wrists
The reigning US Open champion will look to add another major to his trophy cabinet
‘My swing’s gotten a little off. I kind of hit it kind of crappy [at the Scottish Open]. Yeah, the coat hanger is for wrist angle, trying to get a little more inflection in my left wrist so I can square the face more. That’s just what it is.’
Clark’s ‘crappy’ result is probably one most other golfers would enjoy, considering he finished at nine-under and tied for 13th at the tournament.
But Clark and his swing coach chose the hanger method and will use it for a few shots before returning to his normal swing.
Clark is set to tee off alongside fellow American Cameron Young and Swede Ludvig Aberg at 3:04pm BST (10:04am ET) for the first round on Thursday.
