Former “Malcolm in the Middle” star Frankie Muniz has announced that he and his wife of six years, Paige Price, have decided to divorce.
Muniz, 40, made the announcement on Instagram Wednesday — and the split seems so amicable that Paige even spoke up in the comment section to offer her support.
But in a bizarre twist, the announcement was Muniz’s second go at revealing the split, following a “cruel” online reaction to his initial attempt to break the news.
He quickly deleted the original post, which had been illustrated with a video of the couple dancing with their young son that some deemed inappropriate given the news.
“Following a period of separation that we kept private, Paige and I have decided to move forward with ending our marriage,” Muniz wrote.
“After 10 beautiful years together, we’ve grown in ways that made us realize our relationship feels most natural and strong as a deep friendship and as co-parents.
“We share an incredible son who remains the centre of our world, and we’re both happier, stronger parents because of the love and growth we’ve shared.”
Muniz paid tribute to his wife for putting “her own dreams on hold so I could chase mine,” and said the couple had a “foundation of respect and friendship” that would continue.
He said the pair would continue to co-parent their son and would even continue working together, on the actor turned stock car racer’s business Muniz Racing.
Muniz’s now-ex Paige left a comment underneath the post, but she and others made reference to the actor’s since-deleted original post.
Muniz had shared a video of the family dancing happily together in their living room, which apparently attracted some negative reaction from those who felt such upbeat footage was in poor taste for a post announcing a marriage break-up.
“Frankie, I am so sorry that you felt the need to delete an old fun video of our family because people are so cruel to you. This world is so f***ed … divorce is bad, sure – it’s not like we’re excited about it … but we’re two adults who know how to be on the same team. I can’t believe people could scrutinize that,” Paige wrote under the post.
Fans who’d seen the original post also offered their support.
“Aw. I’m glad I got to see the first one right before it disappeared. It was so cute,” said one fan.
“The video was lovely. As a child who survived a bad divorce, it was healing to see 2 people who love each other and themselves & walking through it together,” wrote another.
“I thought the video was very sweet and hopeful. You guys are a great family no matter what and will always be family,” read another top-rated comment.
Muniz began dating actress and model Paige in 2016, and the pair wed four years later before welcoming their son in 2021.
