A tense on-field confrontation between former teammates completely boiled over into a bitter personal feud during Sunday’s clash between the Mariners and Guardians.

Seattle first baseman Josh Naylor and Cleveland catcher Austin Hedges exchanged furious words at home plate during an intense moment in the game.

The explosive argument erupted after Naylor appeared to visibly lean directly into a pitch, taking the ball straight off his elbow to force a base advancement.

Hedges immediately turned to the home plate umpire to protest the play, arguing that the Seattle first baseman had intentionally engineered the hit to cheat the system.

A furious Naylor instantly took exception to the accusation, firing back at his former catcher by calling him a ‘f***ing loser’ and insisting he couldn’t avoid the pitch.

As the tension escalated, the television broadcast caught Hedges launching a devastatingly blunt personal insult right back at the disgruntled batter.

In the viral broadcast footage, Hedges could be clearly seen screaming directly in Naylor’s face: ‘No one likes you. Literally nobody likes you.’

The harsh personal slight stunned spectators, given that the duo spent multiple years playing alongside each other for both the San Diego Padres and the Guardians, before Naylor was eventually traded away to the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2024.

Ironically, Naylor had previously heavily praised Hedges’ infectious energy during their time together in Cleveland.

The viral home-plate drama served as the backdrop for a wild, high-scoring game that saw Seattle score more than three runs for the first time since June 12.

Despite the Mariners holding a commanding 4-1 lead heading into the eighth inning, the Guardians staged a massive five-run comeback to secure a thrilling victory.

Naylor finished his dramatic day at the plate going 2-for-4 with a crucial RBI double, while Hedges went 1-for-2 before being subbed out for Patrick Bailey in the sixth.
