A man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after being attacked by a dog, police said.
Officers from Greater Manchester Police were originally called to reports of a stabbing on Albert Street, Wigan, on Wednesday.
But when they arrived they found that a man in his 30s had suffered serious injuries after being attacked by a dog.
A force spokesperson said three men and one woman were arrested on suspicion of ownership of a dangerous and out-of-control dog and have all been interviewed and bailed.
“The victim was taken to hospital but is in a stable condition and still receiving treatment,” a force spokesperson said.
They said enquiries were ongoing but they did not believe this was an intentional attack and the dog has been put down.
“There is no wider threat to the public in relation to this incident,” they added.
