Former Coronation Street star Sally Lindsay, alongside BBC director-general Matt Brittin and rugby international Marlie Packer, are among 67 individuals set to receive honours from the Prince of Wales at an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle on Wednesday.

Lindsay, widely recognised for her portrayal of Rovers Return landlady Shelley Unwin on the ITV soap, will be appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for her contributions to drama, an honour announced in the King’s New Year list.

The 52-year-old actress graced Corrie from 2001 to 2006, where her character endured a high-profile storyline involving psychological and physical abuse from boyfriend Charlie Stubbs, culminating in her leaving him at the altar. This role earned her the Inside Soap award for best actress in 2005.

Post-Corrie, she co-created and starred in ITV’s Scott & Bailey, appeared in Sky’s Mount Pleasant, and led the crime drama Cold Call. More recently, she co-created and starred in Channel 5’s The Madame Blanc Mysteries.

Matt Brittin, who recently took over from Tim Davie as the BBC’s director-general, is to be made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for his services to technology and efforts in enhancing digital skills.

Prior to his current role, Mr Brittin spent a decade as an executive at Google, serving as president of its Europe, Middle East and Africa operations. His earlier career saw him as an elite rower, representing Team GB at the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games and securing a bronze medal at the 1989 World Rowing Championships.

Also being honoured is Marlie Packer, the distinguished English Rugby Union flanker and double World Cup winner. Ms Packer, who captained both the national side and her club Saracens, recently announced her departure from the club after nine years. She will receive an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for her services to rugby union football.
