Three people, including a police officer, a civilian and a suspect, were killed during a shooting in Montreal’s Côte-des-Neiges neighborhood on Monday morning, local authorities confirmed.
Another police officer was injured in the incident, which prompted provincial authorities to issue an active “armed threat alert” for the area, The Montreal Gazette reported.
The emergency alert, broadcast shortly after 12:30 p.m., ordered residents within the affected sector to lock their doors, stay away from windows and shelter in place.
Montreal police defined the active perimeter as bounded by Côte-des-Neiges Road, MacDonald Street, Highway 40 and Queen Mary Road. The response also forced the complete closure of Highway 40 in both directions and blocked access to the southbound Décarie Expressway.
