Jack Grealish has returned to training after suffering an agonising foot injury that poured cold water on his hopes of making Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the World Cup.
The Manchester City star was forced to undergo surgery in February for a stress fracture sustained while on loan at Hill Dickinson last season.
Before he was sidelined at the start of the season, Grealish had enjoyed a promising loan campaign, making 22 appearances under David Moyes in a bid to recapture his Treble-winning form.
But while his former team-mates prepare for their tournament opener against Croatia in Dallas on Wednesday, Grealish was merely grateful to be back training on grass at Everton’s Finch Farm training ground.
‘Ahhh man can’t even explain how good this felt!’ Grealish captioned pictures of himself taking to the turf on social media. ‘5 months ago since I last put my boots on.. Back on the grass today!
‘Best feeling ever man. Time to get ready!!’

The Man City star opted to train at his loan club Everton despite no decision being made over where he will play next season
Daily Mail Sport understands that no decision has been reached over Grealish’s future, with some time to go before the England international confirms where he will be playing next season.
The agreement for him to continue his rehab at Everton is instead part of an ongoing good relationship between player and loan club.
Towards the end of the last season, Moyes was keen to stress how much of a ‘positive’ influence he found his loan player when Grealish came under scrutiny after pictures emerged of the 30-year-old appearing to be asleep at a table full of cocktails.
‘I only think of Jack as being positive,’ the Everton manager said when queried over the publication of the pictures. ‘He has done great for us.
‘He was brilliant for those 20 games or however many it was.
‘I think when I look back at the season, how controlled the team was, how well we played, he was really good for us.
‘So I only think of him positively. He has had a bit of time off because he’s healing from his foot (injury).’
