Twelve have died after a plane carrying skydivers crashed near an airport in Missouri, police say.
The plane went down near the Butler Memorial Airport, roughly 65 miles south of Kansas City.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene after getting a call about the crash at around 11:30 a.m. Sunday morning, according to Missouri Highway Patrol Sgt. Justin Ewing.
A witness reported seeing the plane engulfed in flames.
“It landed in a field adjacent to the airport, but I think they’re shutting down the roadway just as a precaution,” Ewing said.
Ewing said other details were not immediately available.
The crash will be investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board, he added.
