Parts of the UK are set to be hotter than LA as temperatures are expected to hit 30C next week.

After an unsettled first week of June, the weekend brought a welcome blast of hot weather which is set to continue next week.

The warming trend is thanks to warmer air moving into Europe, the Met Office said, which will result in high pressure building across the country.

While showers are forecast for Monday and Tuesday, a brighter outlook is forecast from Wednesday where temperatures in south-east England could reach around 27C. Another surge of warmth is expected on Thursday and Friday and into next weekend.

While cloud cover could affect the highest temperatures, forecasters say there is a chance of 30C being recorded by the end of the week.

“We’re definitely seeing a warming trend from midweek onwards,” Met Office forecaster, Kathryn Chalk, said.

She added: “Relatively warm and humid nights are also on the cards- not as expected as what we had a few weeks ago, because it won’t be wall-to-wall sunshine like that, we had a stronger signal for that compared to this, but nevertheless it is going to be turning warmer.”

Wales is expected to enjoy temperatures of around 23C on Sunday, while Scotland will become warmer after a showery Saturday, with highs of around 20C.

There may be some thunderstorms in parts of the country on Monday, although temperatures should remain in the low 20s before cloud and rain spreads from the west on Tuesday.

Met Office forecaster, Honor Criswick, said: “We’ll see a slight warm plume building across the south. So temperatures will start to increase day by day, particularly across parts of the southeast. It’s looking like it could potentially be very warm, if not quite hot towards the end of the week.”

This Evening and Tonight:

Showers in the north gradually fade as winds ease overnight. Elsewhere, skies clear, especially in the south, with some patchy fog possible later across the far southwest by dawn.

Sunday:

Mostly dry with sunny spells on Sunday. Light winds for most, but breezy along North Sea coasts. The odd shower possible in the north later. Feeling warm in any sunshine.

Outlook for Monday to Wednesday:

Mostly dry Monday with sunny spells, some showers developing later, risk of thunder. Turning wet on Tuesday and Wednesday, mainly in the west. Generally warm, sometimes very warm and humid.
