Everton are interested in Tyrique George, but the Merseyside club have not yet decided whether to commit to triggering their option on the Chelsea loanee, believed to be worth around £25million.

David Moyes’ side still have time to consider activating their option this month.

If they decide not to do so, and cannot come to a separate agreement with Chelsea for a lower price than the one already outlined, then other suitors are primed to enter the picture for George, 20.

The value of Everton’s option has never been officially disclosed, though sources told Daily Mail Sport when the loan initially went through in the January window that the fee was not fixed but flexible, suggesting it was dependent upon variables such as how many matches he appeared in. It is understood to stand at circa £25m today.

Last summer saw Chelsea agree a £22m sale with Fulham before that transfer fell through on deadline day as it was contingent on other moves happening at Craven Cottage.

George made 11 Premier League appearances for Everton in the second half of the season, though started only once and did not score or assist any goals.

Tyrique George wants first-team football and could leave Chelsea this summer

They dipped into the loan market after Jack Grealish’s season was ended by a foot stress fracture in January, and Moyes was complimentary of George before the summer, saying: ‘We’ve enjoyed having Tyrique here, he’s been an excellent boy and his work rate and everything has been excellent, so we’re happy with him.’

George is prepared to leave Chelsea permanently in his desire for regular first-team football.

Xabi Alonso has since been appointed as manager of his parent club. Chelsea, when contacted, did not comment on their academy graduate.

Everton’s spending this summer could be complicated by the fact they have been told to pay a remarkable £35m to Burnley over the impact of a breach of the Premier League’s financial rules. Everton have appealed that verdict.
