Support for creative content with strong potential for international sales

The UK Global Screen Fund helps UK screen businesses grow overseas. It supports independent companies working in film, TV, documentary, animation and interactive narrative games.

The fund is run by the British Film Institute (BFI) and funded by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. It is designed to help UK companies sell more content internationally, build partnerships and raise their global profile.

The fund is made up of separate strands that support

  • business development – for growth strategies and intellectual property development
  • co-productions – for UK companies taking part in international productions
  • international distribution – for sales and distribution of UK works in overseas territories

The international distribution fund further branches out to cover

International distribution video game release funding

The video game release strand offers grants of between £5,000 and £50,000 for the marketing, promotion and technical costs of releasing eligible UK narrative games in international markets.

To qualify, the lead applicant must be a UK-based development studio. The game must

  • be a full-length premium title
  • be released on PC or console
  • have a development budget of £10 million or less
  • meet all other eligibility rules

Businesses should read the guidance before applying.

A further round of the video game release funding is scheduled for autumn 2026.
