Tottenham have announced their second free transfer of the summer in the arrival of Marcos Senesi.
Centre back Senesi, 29, left Bournemouth after four years at the end of last season upon the expiry of his contract, and waved an emotional goodbye to the Cherries fan base alongside Andoni Iraola.
He has now swapped red and black for white, and joins former Liverpool defender Andy Robertson in moving to north London on a free deal.
‘It’s a very special feeling to be a Tottenham Hotspur player,’ Senesi told the club website.
‘From the first moment, the Club has shown why they want me and how much they want me to be a part of what they are building. It’s exciting and something I can’t wait to be involved in.
‘Every time I step on the pitch, I will do my best to make the fans proud and to take the Club back to the place it belongs. I want to win things with Tottenham and will do everything I can to make that happen.’
Tottenham have announced the signing of Marcos Senesi on a free transfer from Bournemouth
Manager Roberto De Zerbi, who led Spurs to safety last season, said: ‘Marcos’ experience, quality on the ball, and competitive edge will strengthen us defensively, as well as giving us flexibility in formation.
‘He’s comfortable playing in a possession-based team, reads the game very well and has the personality to thrive in a demanding environment.
‘I also love his mentality and desire to keep improving and I’m looking forward to working with him and seeing the big contribution he can make to the team.’
Senesi’s Bournemouth exit will potentially take him away from partner Kelci-Rose Bowers, who played for Bournemouth’s Women’s team.
They have become known as the club’s ‘power couple’ and reportedly began dating in 2025, with the pair having since shared several snaps together on social media.
Kelci-Rose is a defender for the Cherries after beginning her youth career at Southampton, and outside of football she is a model.
Together, they have appeared to take several romantic holidays, and Bowers has 195,000 followers on Instagram. Bournemouth have, though, confirmed she is now too leaving the club.
Spurs are looking to sign another centre back in Jan Paul van Hecke, but have had an opening offer rejected.
The move could split Senesi from girlfriend, Kelci-Rose Bowers, who played for Bournemouth’s women’s team
Brighton value the 25-year-old Netherlands international at close to £70million but he only has one year left on his contract.
Chelsea also hold an interest but Van Hecke is well-known to Roberto de Zerbi after he played under the Tottenham coach during his time in charge of Brighton.
That dynamic will attract the defender to the move but Spurs need to get closer to Brighton’s valuation.
There is an expectation that Cristian Romero will leave this summer and the club are clearly targeting reinforcements at centre back.
Earlier on Wednesday, though, it was announced Ben Davies had signed a new 12-month deal at Tottenham to extend his stay at the club into a 13th season.
Wales captain Davies only made five appearances during an injury-ravaged last season, but was praised by De Zerbi for his leadership during a tense and ultimately successful relegation battle in the Premier League.
Davies, who has appeared 363 times for Tottenham, was present for matches at Aston Villa and Chelsea before he helped with the team’s preparations before a final-day win at home to Everton.
However, Yves Bissouma will leave the club this summer when his contract expires on June 30.
