A girl has been arrested after three people suffered knife injuries at a school in Manchester.

Emergency services were called to the Co-op Academy on Plant Hill Road in Blackley on Tuesday morning.

There is not believed to be any wider threat to the pupils and staff at the school, Greater Manchester Police said.

Officers remain at the scene and are supporting the school.

Pictures on the Manchester Evening News show several police and ambulance vehicles outside the school gates and inside the school grounds.

A helicopter is also in attendance.

A spokesperson for GMP said: “Officers are currently responding to an incident at a school on Plant Hill Road, Blackley where a schoolgirl has been arrested.

“Three people have been injured however injuries aren’t believed to be serious at this time.

“Emergency services remain on scene and we are supporting the school.”

The Co-op Academy is a mixed secondary school with around 1,560 pupils aged between 11 and 16 years old.

The academy was rated Good in its most recent Ofsted inspection.
