Football fans have been left stunned after a player was run over by his own team’s medical buggy during a match in Ecuador.

El Nacional and Liga de Portoviejo were doing battle in the LigaPro Serie B game, with the away side winning 1-0 on the day.

But one incident caught attention around the world, with Portoviejo player Edison Kaisedo hit by his own side’s medical buggy, which resulted in him hitting the ground and writhing in pain.

In the 71st minute of the game, a Portoviejo player was receiving treatment as he laid on the buggy to be taken off the field. Suddenly, though, Kaisedo appeared to step into the vehicle’s path and was hit.

The Ecuador national fell to the floor and started holding his leg, with several members of his side’s coaching staff running over to confront the driver.

In staggering fashion, however, Kaisedo continued playing and saw out the remainer of the game, but was unable to help his side overturn the 1-0 deficit.

Fans weren’t as sympathetic towards the star as his own team, however.

One wrote on social media: ‘It’s the player’s fault, come on, the guy jumps on the bandwagon, it’s obvious.’

Another posted: ‘Dude walked straight into the cart without even looking.’

A third added: ‘Haha, but yeah, it’s totally the player’s fault for wondering round aimlessly.’

Kaisedo, 36, has had a long career in Ecuador, and actually joined Liga de Portoviejo from El Nacional.

He has also featured for the likes of Aucas and Orense in his homeland.
