Support for UK independent music businesses
UK music companies can now apply for the latest round of the Music Export Growth Scheme (MEGS), which provides funding to help artists break into international markets. The scheme is delivered by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) and funded by the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS).
Funding is aimed at activities that build international profile and commercial success, with grants that
- cover up to 50% of eligible project costs
- must be matched by the applicant’s own funding
- support external costs only (not core business running costs)
Eligible activity may include
- international marketing and PR campaigns
- touring and live showcase opportunities abroad
- media appearances and promotional activity in target markets
- securing distribution, licensing or publishing deals overseas
The scheme does not fund UK-based activity or attendance at international trade fairs.
Who can apply
The scheme is open to UK-registered small and medium-sized music companies working with artists who have already demonstrated success in the UK and are ready to grow internationally.
Applications should include a detailed international marketing plan, supported by evidence such as
- UK sales, touring or media success
- interest from target overseas markets
- experience of the artist’s team and partners

How to apply
Applicants must register on the DBT Grants Hub before applying. Once you register, you will be able to submit an online application form for MEGS.
Applications for Round 25 are open until 8 June 2026.
BPI and DBT will assess applications and create a shortlist. An independent panel of industry experts will then review the shortlisted applications. Funding will be awarded based on the ambition of the campaign, including the level of financial commitment, expected sales, and wider business outcomes.
