The 2026 NFL season is still over three months away, yet the New York Giants have already suffered a crushing injury blow.

The Giants were left rocked on Thursday when they lost a key member of their defensive line for the upcoming season.

Defensive superstar Roy Robertson-Harris suffered an Achilles tear during the teams Organized Team Activities, according to The Athletic’s Dan Duggan.

The 32-year-old defensive end signed a two-year, $9 million contract with the Giants just last year.

He went on to cement himself as a crucial member of the Giants’ defense, starting all 17 games last season.

Robertson-Harris had been working with the first-string defense at OTAs when he suffered the devastating injury.

Achilles tears ordinarily signify season-ending injuries for NFL stars. With the injury coming during the offseason, there is a slim chance Robertson-Harris could make a return late in the 2026 season depending on the Giants’ campaign.

The defensive star is the second member of the Giants’ roster to suffer a torn Achilles during offseason work.

Rookie cornerback Thaddeus Dixon tore his Achilles during a workout earlier this month.

He was desperately hoping to impress John Harbaugh and Giants staff after being signed as an undrafted free agent.

Dixon, who played in seven games for Bill Belichick and the University of North Carolina last season, was later placed on injured reserve and he will now miss his entire rookie season.

Meanwhile, the Giants’ defensive line had already suffered a significant blow earlier this offseason when they traded away Dexter Lawrence.

Defensive tackle Lawrence, one of New York’s standout stars, headed to the Cincinnati Bengals in exchange for the No. 10 pick in last month’s draft.

The franchise went on to use the pick on Francis Mauigoa, an offensive tackle out of the University of Miami.

The Giants signed free agents DJ Reader and Shelby Harris as well as sixth-round rookie Bobby Jamison-Travis, who will now become crucial to the team’s defense.
