The UK is set for a scorcher of a bank holiday weekend as temperatures are expected to soar to 30C in some parts of the country.

Following a week of unsettled conditions and below average temperatures, the sun is set to bring plenty of warmth in time for the long weekend.

Residents in England can expect temperatures to reach the low 20s from Thursday, with those in central and eastern areas set to see the mercury rise nearer to 30C, according to the Met Office.

The unseasonably warm weather means England is likely to experience a heatwave, as temperatures are forecast to hit at least 28C for five consecutive days.

However, forecasters are predicting some rain as the warmer weather brings humidity, particularly in the north of England and Scotland.

Temperatures are expected to rise from Thursday, with highs of 23C in the south east of England and 20C widely across the midlands and north of England. Conditions are set to be slightly cooler in coastal areas, but most will see warm and dry weather, the Met Office says.

Forecasters say the weather will turn increasingly warm and humid on Friday. Temperatures are expected to reach 28C in Greater London and Cambridgeshire, and between 22C and 25C across large swathes of England.

People in the south east of England can expect strong sunshine, while conditions are expected to be cloudier in the north.

As we move into the bank holiday weekend, much of the country are set to see the sun as temperatures remain warm. Forecasters predict highs of 29C in the south east of England, with the mercury climbing to between 20C and 25C across the rest of England.

The pleasant weather is expected to continue on Sunday, with temperature soaring back to 30C in Greater London and around 26C elsewhere in the south east. Highs of between 21C and 27C are forecast across the rest of the UK, with clear sunshine set to last for the day for most.

Bank holiday Monday will bring beautiful, warm conditions for much of England with highs of 30C in the south and slightly cooler temperatures in the north.

The weather will continue to be sunny on Tuesday, with another 30C day forecast for London.

Forecasters say conditions will remain warm and sunny for much of next week.

“Through the following week, high pressure is expected to broadly remain in place for much of the UK, and fine weather is likely to continue for most of the country,” the Met Office said.

“There may be occasions where low pressure to the north may bring some brief spells of rain across northern parts, but in general fair weather will dominate. Temperatures are expected to be above normal, feeling very warm at times with light winds.”
